Motherhood Whoas

The good, the bad and the crazies.

Ear infections are a bummer. Just because they make the medicine pink and smell like bubble gum does not make it any easier to inject into a screaming baby's mouth. The day I had been waiting for/dreading finally arrived last Sunday - I felt John's head like I neurotically do about 25 times a day and it was warm. I have been preparing for this for 6+ months, so I calmly and efficiently took John's temperature...5 times using 5 different tools. After scanning his head, using the pacifier thermometer, sticking another thermo under the arm and then two others in his little fanny (not at the same time, don't worry mom), I determined that John did in fact have fever, though actual temps were hard to figure out since you have to add or subtract degrees depending on which region you are checking. At this point John was very tired and just wanted to go back to sleep, so I shot him up with Infant Tylenol and put him in our bed. I then cracked open a Diet Coke, chugged it down in less than a minute, curled up next to my babe, placed my hand on his tummy to make sure he was breathing and stared at him for 3 hours until the sun came up. Poor little buddy

I am learning a lot of wonderful and very hard things as a mother. Every day John shows me that he is his own little person - so independent and dependent at the same time. Getting sick is just one of the many things he will do by himself. But I plan to always be right there with my hand on his stomach checking his breathing.

Feeling much better & helping Mommy write her blog
